United Poker League is a free to join, free to play amateur poker league where players are able to play in No Limit Texas Hold’em Poker Tournaments for their enjoyment . Players are able to play, improve their skills, and socialize with others in a non-gambling environment; all in the comfort of their favorite bars and restaurants. As with any sport or game, there is, however, any number of “rules and guidelines”, commonly referred to as ‘Rules of Etiquette’; that make the game more fun to play; and contribute to smoother, more efficient play. Here are 5 items that, when followed by all players, can make the game more enjoyable for everyone. ACT IN TURN This simply means; don’t fold your hand early. If you have looked at your cards, and know you’re going to fold, wait until it’s your turn to do so. It’s unfair to other players if someone gets to know that you’re going to fold out of turn. This also holds true for calling and rising. It’s really very simple: just wait until it’s your turn to act before doing so. KEEP QUIET WHILE A HAND IS IN PLAY Don’t comment on the possibilities of a hand. The cards speak for themselves. Comments like “I knew I should have stayed in”. Or. “Boy, I’m glad I folded what I had”; not only provide other players a clue to the possibility of other cards available for play (or not), but it’s just plan ‘bad manners’ to talk about the current hand while it is in play. Discuss it all you want to after the hand is over, but never during play. DON’T “SPLASH THE POT” Not only is this a UPL House Rule, again, it’s just bad poker manners. Just place your chips in front of you until it’s time to move everyone’s chips into the middle. This helps to keep track of everything, and can easily avoid any question of who bet, called, or raised at any time. Throwing your chips into the middle is always a bad idea. PAY ATTENTION TO THE GAME This is pretty much self-explanatory. Socializing is part of the fun, so is ‘taking in the scene’ at your favorite establishment; but always remember that other players can easily get aggravated at a player who consistently doesn’t pay attention to the game, and has to be constantly ‘prompted’ when it’s that players to act. ONE PLAYER TO A HAND This is real simple: You don’t get to receive advice during a hand, and you don’t get to give it! Just play your own hand, and let everyone else play their own hand. ‘Nuff said’ about that. Have fun, enjoy the game, and “play well with others”!!!
